#BRINGBACKTBSCOVERS

So, in case people are not aware, there is a travesty of publishing about to happen… THEY ARE GOING TO CHANGE THE COVERS FOR THE BONE SEASON SERIES BY SAMANTHA SHANNON. YES! These beautiful covers: Anyone who knows me knows that I absolutely LOVE this series to bits. The most exciting moment of blogging EVER was when I got to the release the first official teaser for the third book, The Song Rising. So naturally, I love Bloomsbury, because they gave me that absolutely incredible opportunity to be part of one of my favourite series. And I’ll always love them for that. I review books for them frequently (and hope I continue to do so), and I have a fairly good relationship with the wonderful people working there. But I am pretty damn cranky with this proposed cover change. These are the proposed new covers: What the f**k guys? Seriously? This is the worst cover change I’ve seen since the Across the Universe cover change. And you know what, I never bought the third book in …

Pastry Book Tag!

Bookwormaniac created (I think) this tag, and I saw it on Readwatchreviewblog and decided to tag myself because I thought it looks fun, even though my coeliac’s disease means that I have absolutely no idea what most of these taste like (except macarons which are usually gluten free! Whoo!). And I haven’t done a tag in forever. So, let’s start shall we? Croissant: Name a popular book or series that everyone (including you) loves.   A Court of Thorns and Roses. Tumblr is all about this series right now, and with good reason. It’s just so awesome. All of tumblr can’t be wrong. Easy. Next!   Macaron: Name a book that was hard to get through but worth it at the end. How are macarons easy to get through? they are so tiny and delicate. Anyway, although gone girl was incredibly addictive and I read it in no time, it was difficult for me as I actually know an Amy Dunn, and I’m still traumatised from my encounter with her. So terrifying. If you think Amy …

12 Days of Bookmas – What to buy – The Leader of the Rebellion

Hello everyone, and sorry again for missing a day, but I have been pretty sick for a couple of days. Anyway, I’m okay now and here with a bunch of Dystopian recommendations to inspire the future Leader of the Rebellion that you know. Also I know the photos are a bit weird, but I wasn’t feeling particularly inspired and I really love my gingerbread garland and this chair – which I totally made (well, assembled, but did so better than my husband and that’s what matters). Anyway… Books! 1 – The Hunger Games – Ridiculously fluoro editions Okay, yeah. The Hunger Games is a pretty obvious choice when it comes to dystopia, but these super bright fluoro editions (which are actually much brighter than in this photo) is a little less obvious, and just so awesome. Get them here: The Book Depository: The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, Mockingjay. 2 – Red Rising by Pierce Brown Now this book is quite similar to The Hunger Games, except it’s far more grown-up (bloody and violent) and set …

Welcome back to Scion – The Mime Order Book Tour with exclusive teaser for book 3 and a giveaway!

Oh my goodness! So many exciting things today! Where do I start? This is one of my absolute favourite series. I’ve raved about it both on here and a lot on tumblr. I love it. It is a mix between fantasy and dystopian and it has one of the most interesting magic systems I’ve ever encountered in a book before. The Bone Season follows the story of Paige in a futuristic (but kind of old-timey) London where being a Clairvoyant (or Voyant) is punishable by death. Paige is a Dreamwalker for an underground Voyant crime syndicate, and just by being alive she is breaking the law. And it’s really awesome. So Samantha Shannon, the fabulous author of the amazing The Bone Season series, bless her cotton socks, has written a little teaser for book three for me to share with you all. How I have been deemed worthy for this ultimate honour is beyond me. May I present to you a teaser for the third book in the series, written by Samantha Shannon, herself. TEASER: …

Recom-Monday-tions! The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon

Everyone who knows me on tumblr knows how much I love this series. This series follows the story of Paige in a futuristic (but kind of old-timey) London where being a Clairvoyant is punishable by death. Paige is a Dreamwalker for an underground Voyant crime syndicate, and just by being alive she is breaking the law. I honestly wasn’t expecting to love this book that much, but it has become one of my absolutely favourite series. I am enamoured with it. This series has one of the most richly imagined worlds I’ve ever read, it is completely immersive and so intricately created. I even liked the second book in the series (The Mime Order – review here) even more than the first and I absolutely can’t wait for the next book. You can find it here:  Goodreads. Amazon. The Book Depository. Kobo. (the ebook is usually really cheap too!)

Book Review: The Mime Order by Samantha Shannon

“Some revolutions change the world in a day. Others take decades or centuries or more, and others still never come to fruition. Mine began with a moment and a choice.” What’s it about? The Mime Order is the Sequel to the dystopian fantasy, The Bone Season. The story takes place in an alternate London, called Scion, where clairvoyants (humans with magical abilities) exist, but are hunted down by the government. We follow Paige, a young voyant who works for the underground voyant crime syndicate. In order to avoid spoilers for either The Bone Season, or The Mime Order, this review will be rather short. What did I think? Right off the bat I thought this book exceeded its predecessor, which was also excellent. A lot more of Scion and the Syndicate’s place in the city is revealed, along with more details of the remarkably constructed machinations of the voyants and the aether. We really get to see how beautifully unique and finely constructed the world Samantha Shannon has created is with this novel. This world is …
