I’ve only read one of these: the strange and beautiful sorrows of Ava lavender, and that was only because I met the author. But I cried multiple times throughout the book, so I’m glad I did

I actually have quite a love/hate relationship with that book. For the first 80% it was one of the most beautiful books I’ve ever read because it was strange and beautiful and sorrowful and just so whimsical and I loved it. And then the thing happened and there was no longer anything strange and beautiful about it. It was just horrific. It sucked all the magic away. It should have been called “the strange and beautiful sorrows of everyone but Ava Lavender”.

It’s the same with me. I adore it and hate it all at the same time.

AWESOME, gorgeous post, Tina. You did this tag so gorgeously, although with the quality and sublime beauty of all your photographs I shouldn’t be surprised that you’ve done it again here. You really captured these books in an utterly gorgeous way, and your edition of Alice- squee! So nice. There are a good few books here that I need to give a go, including Ava Lavender (which sounds beautiful and hopefully I’m not disappointed in the end as a lot of people seem to be), and Patrick Ness is someone I truly want to read. His work sounds really diverse and intriguing. And possibly gut punching. x

Patrick Ness is the king of gut-punching, but absolutely brilliant!
